Based on urban plans of the last third of the 19th and the first decade of the 20th century the study analyses building morphology proposed for historical Prague territory, mainly the Podskalí Quarter in The New Town, where the comprehensive rebuilding process commenced and lasted the longest. Its advanced level preceded the development in other Prague areas. In addition to the early plans based on 1864 building regulations, the study focused on neglected layout plans following the 1886 building regulations for Prague and adjacent municipalities, especially on a completely unknown major layout plan of 1888, which regulated most of newly built buildings,...

After the early death of the architect Prof. Jan Kotěra in 1923, the architectural community perceived the construction of university buildings designed by him on the bridgehead of Čech Bridge in Prague Old Town as a kind of monument, partly also due to a numerous complications that Kotěra had to go through during the long design process. Based on a study of written evidence and earlier literature, including period newspapers, the article deals in detail with the circumstances of erecting the Holy Trinity Column in Malostranské Square in Prague in 1713-1715 and especially its relatively numerous renovations and restoration works from the second half of the 18th to the mid-20th century. This hitherto neglected and not very well-known history gives an instructive evidence of the period perception of these sculptural monuments and the practical care given to them. The text puts emphasis on publishing archival documents. Attention is paid mainly to the material additions to the column in...

Staletá Praha 37, 1/2021, 148-165 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2021.1.04
The article deals with the valuable remains of the original early 20th century pavement mosaic in the area of the Albertov University Campus in Prague New Town. Special attention is paid to the streets, which are to be affected by utility lines renewal and revitalization projects of the area, i.e. Albertov Street with Albertov Stairs and Horská. Specific Prague mosaic paving is as important for the overall expression of the heritage scheduled area as the facade morphology of the local university institutes, and is undoubtedly a historical and architectural monument. Regretfully it is perceived as a mere firming of the street surface; stone setts of...
