Staletá Praha 32, 1/2016, 2-23 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2016.1.01
This article concerns the discovery of Gothic wall paintings on the yard façade of the house No. 510 in Havelská Street in Prague. Beneath the seemingly trivial façade of the side yard wing with balconies, there are hidden remains of painted Renaissance façade and a paneled brick façade from the 14th century below, with unexpectedly fine and surprisingly well preserved paintings from the time of John of Luxembourg or Charles IV. The revealed part of the paintings contains a frontal depiction of a bishop, probably of St. Adalbert in two fields of the façade, and an alliance Bohemian-Luxembourg coat of arms. An attempt to date the paintings is included...
New view on hypothetical participation of Jan Šindel on the construction of Prague Astronomical Clock
Neue Ansicht über die Hypothese der Teilnahme von Jan Šindel beim Bau der Prager astronomischen Turmuhr
Petr Skála
Staletá Praha 32, 1/2016, 24-45 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2016.1.02
The current view on the authorship of the Prague astronomical clock as well as complete history of this clock and its development during centuries is encumbered by many errors and imprecisions. This article analysis the hypothesis of the clock being constructed by Mikuláš of Kadaň on the base of calculations made by Jan Šindel, professor at Charles University. The author of this article considers the argumentation leading to such conclusions insubstantial and presents counter-arguments, which weaken the credibility of this hypothesis. The original hypothesis, which even its author, historian Zdeněk Horský initially did not consider completely indisputable,...
Hlubočepy : Urban development of a Prague quarter
Karel Hudeček
Staletá Praha 32, 1/2016, 54-81 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2016.1.04
The urban and architectural quality of Prague Hlubočepy quarter has so far escaped systematic attention of heritage care, although its surroundings belong to the most systematically researched areas from the natural science point of view from the earliest times. Despite the fact that there are no buildings in the old village building fund comparable with the quality of other localities of Prague surroundings, Hlubočepy can provide specific evidence for the site development of Prague's industrial expansion in the second half of the 19th century. Significant meaning for today's appearance of the village also was the purposeful realization of the regulation...
Department store U Nováků in Prague in the context of the development of department stores in Europe
Dana Linhartová
Staletá Praha 32, 1/2016, 82-97 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2016.1.05
This article is concerned with the first Art Nouveau phase (1901-1904) of the development of the famous shopping palace known under the name "U Nováků" No. 699 in Vodičkova Street in The New Town. Equally interesting is the later part of this palace situated towards the street V Jámě and realised in 1927-1929, described only marginally due to the restricted space of this article. Both parts of currently united palace complex reflect creative development of a single author - architect Osvald Polívka. Also the personality of the building owner Josef Novák is mentioned. The more complex development of department stores in Europe, mainly in Paris and Vienna,...

The endangered platform partition at the Vyšehrad railway station Nr. 86 in Prague
Dorota Havlíková
Staletá Praha 32, 1/2016, 98-112 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2016.1.06
The aim of this material study is not the arts and crafts evaluation of the dispatcher building, but description and spatial definition of a documented platform partition. This requires a mention of the building development and a marginal description, at least of its architectural form and arts and crafts fittings, of its interior and exterior. The station became redundant in the early 1960s and slowly deteriorated since that time. Some arts and crafts fittings have irretrievably disappeared unfortunately, which is the reason for documenting a glassed panelled partition of a platform connected to the south façade of the building. This feature is unusual...

Die Dokumentierung der Oratorienfenster der drei Prager Ordenskirchen
Ladislav Bartoš, Veronika Koberová
Staletá Praha 32, 1/2016, 113-134 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2016.1.07
The article documents a selection of Baroque window panels in the oratories of the churches of St. Giles at the Old Town, St. Thomas in Lesser Town and Virgin Mary of the Angels in Hradčany. The text describes the current state of the windows, their typological comparison and a consideration of the reasons of their functional arrangements is included. In the context of the building history of all three buildings the authors attempt to date the items concerned. Special attention is given to valuable assemblages of preserved original metal fittings, including several types of specific features for adjusting the sliding wings.
