Tomasz Cymbalak, Sylvie Svatošová
Staletá Praha 31, 2/2015, 2-15 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2015.2.01
This article is concerned with archaeological small artefacts cut from metal plates. Their for a time uncertain interpretation has been explained by comparison with iconographic sources as aiglets for laces, cords and ribbons applied on garments of various social levels. This material study summarises the finds of aiglets from rescue excavations within the historic centre of Prague. Producers of laces, cords and belts have been neglected in the Czech and Moravian professional literature. This article aims at this small but important part of the products by these narrowly specialised craftsmen and their wide use.

This article concerns discovery of fortification remains - a ditch and a fragment of a front stone wall at Hradčanské square in Prague 1-Hradčany. This is the first clear evidence of the fortification existence to the west from today's Prague castle. Archaeological excavations are described in detail with interpretations concerning the infilling and deterioration of the ditch. Pollen and macroremains analysis of the ditch fill are included with their results summarized together. The second part of the article is an overview of current knowledge of the pre-Romanesque fortification of the Prague left bank with highlighting unpublished data from Hradčany....

Jan Havrda, Miroslav Kovář, Anna Žďárská
Staletá Praha 31, 2/2015, 42-61 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2015.2.03
The discovery of Romanesque construction in the basement of the south wing of Prague Klementinum prompted discussion on the earliest buildings on this site where the church of St. Clement should have been situated according to a mention in so called Dalimil's chronicle. Also one of the most important ecclesiastical institutions of its period was to be found on this site in the High Medieval Ages. The article also summarises written evidence up to the mid 13th century concerning the settling of the Order of brothers Preachers in Prague.

Jana Maříková-Kubková, Iva Herichová
Staletá Praha 31, 2/2015, 62-75 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2015.2.04
The Church of the Virgin Mary, the latest discovery among the churches at Prague Castle known from written sources, was investigated at the very beginning of the 1950s. Attempts at finding its location date back to the interwar period, and it was around 1930 that Ivan Borkovský found the first indication of a building he was later to identify as St Mary's Church. Since the first publication of his investigation in 1950, it has been clear that the location and building do not conform to the idea conveyed by the written sources. This contribution seeks to define the place the church was erected at, to suggest a new reconstruction of its first building...

Stonemasons marks in the passage of The Powder Tower
Ladislav Bartoš
Staletá Praha 31, 2/2015, 76-88 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2015.2.05
The text concerns problems of the methods of survey and documentation of stonemasons' marks and pays attention to the current state of viewing the results of work done in this field so far, i.e. publication of documented stone marks on Prague buildings. Walls in the passage of the Prašná Gate have been chosen to practical verification of options and limits during their documentation without direct access (from scaffolding, platform etc.). Documentation of marks on the ashlar walls was pursued solely from the pavement level using a camera, folding 2 m rule as a graphical scale and sun light at various angles in various seasons and day times on certain...

The part of the Buštěhrad railway is the Prague-Hostivice line from 1870-1872, so called Prague Semmering. It forms a remarkable architectural landscape complex and includes famous historic viaducts across the Hlubočepy valley, and a number of further industrial and railway buildings, partly preserved in high stage of authenticity. The article evaluates architectural, historic and technical qualities of this complex as well as its parts, which served as a source data for the proposal of this complex in the stated section as a cultural monument. Despite that the original buildings of the Buštěhrad railway in the area of the Smíchov station are currently...
