Staletá Praha 27, 1/2011, 4-26 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2011.1.02

This study presents the work by Vojtěch Hynais, which aspires to be proclaimed a national cultural monument, as a 19th century example of Bohemian high art painting, although perceived in the past as a result of academism. A restoration survey revealed the masterfully captured painting technique of Hynais and a well considered conception of the general effect of the allegory. The authors combine art historic knowledge with stratigraphical survey, infra red spectroscopy and microchemical analysis. Evaluation of Hynais' technique is based on photographs in sharp light and macro photographs of the paintings condition. This scientific knowledge, as opposed...

Václav Rybařík

Staletá Praha 27, 1/2011, 27-41 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2011.1.03

Centennial Prague. The authorship of some of Prague's facade from the art nouveau, modernism and cubism period
Das hundertjährige Prag. Zur Urheberschaft mehrerer Prager fassaden der Periode des Jugendstils, der Moderne und des
Kubismus

Jan E. Svoboda

Staletá Praha 27, 1/2011, 42-69 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2011.1.04

This study discusses some buildings from the end of the 19th century to the origins of the First Czech Republic, covering the architectural styles (eclectism, art nouveau, modern and cubic) and their history. The aim is to attempt to assign those works of better quality to known or neglected architects on the base of their external features. Every period had fewer good architects than builders; however many of them had their distinctive characteristic elements, which enable the classification of some of their work or to presume their origins. This cannot be considered as evidence for authorship, but more as a contribution to the discussion of this...

Modern architecture at Střešovice. From entirety to detail 2.

Alexandra Křížová, Hedvika Křížová

Staletá Praha 27, 1/2011, 70-81 | DOI: 10.56112/sp.2011.1.05

This study was based on the outcome of the research project Professional Cognition, Survey, Scientific Evaluation, Inventory and Documentation of Architectural Cultural Heritage of the 19th and 20th Century which led to a detailed survey and the recognition of modern architecture in Prague. The second of the three intended articles continues the mapping of superior, albeit less well known, architectural objects in the Stresovice quarter - a significant part of which was built in the first half of the 20th century. The article will also introduce a less well known architect of the era, Jiri Kodl, and his own residence, a villa in Stresovice.
