Peter Desiderius Lenz. For decades, only the school's plaster and bronze castings were known. The finding of a small statue, whose origin is not yet completely clear, will not only allow for a further shift in the knowledge of the Beuron style which until recently was a neglected source of inspiration for the work of architect Josip Plečnik, but it also illustrates the mutual creative relationships with his student and successor Otto Rothmayer. The study follows the artistic development of Peter Lenz at the time before he entered the monastery in Beuron, brings us closer to the birth of the Beuron art, still insufficiently unknown, and more deeply addresses Lenz's key works, the Chapel of St. Maur near Beuron and the Isis-Madonna, in which Plečnik saw eternal value.
