RT Journal Article SR Electronic A1 Skála, Petr T1 New view on hypothetical participation of Jan Šindel on the construction of Prague Astronomical Clock Neue Ansicht über die Hypothese der Teilnahme von Jan Šindel beim Bau der Prager astronomischen Turmuhr JF Staletá Praha YR 2016 VO 32 IS 1 SP 24 OP 45 DO 10.56112/sp.2016.1.02 UL https://staletapraha.cz/en/artkey/pha-201601-0002.php AB The current view on the authorship of the Prague astronomical clock as well as complete history of this clock and its development during centuries is encumbered by many errors and imprecisions. This article analysis the hypothesis of the clock being constructed by Mikuláš of Kadaň on the base of calculations made by Jan Šindel, professor at Charles University. The author of this article considers the argumentation leading to such conclusions insubstantial and presents counter-arguments, which weaken the credibility of this hypothesis. The original hypothesis, which even its author, historian Zdeněk Horský initially did not consider completely indisputable, was later interpreted by public as correct, and today Jan Šindel is generally perceived as the co-author of Prague astronomical clock. He is stated as the author of the calculation even on the bronze plaque placed by the clock.
